Over the first five days of the Commonwealth Games medal tally in Birmingham, Australia dominated the medal tally, sitting comfortably ahead of the field, thanks largely to an even stronger showing in the pool. They are still going strong on day six as they have won four more gold medals to show no signs of slowing down. Women’s 4 x 100m medley relay gold medalist Ariarne Titmus, men’s 1500m freestyle gold medalist Sam Short and the women’s 4 x 100m medley relay won gold.
Commonwealth Games Medal Tally
The Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, England, will feature over 200 Indian athletes competing in 16 different sports for medals. There were 66 medals awarded to Indian athletes at the last edition of the competition at Gold Coast in 2018, 66 golds, 20 silvers, and 20 bronzes, helping them to finish third overall in the competition behind the hosts, Australia, and England. It should be noted, however, that winning 16 of the 66 medals that were awarded at Gold Coast 2018 could be more difficult for India to duplicate their tally from Gold Coast 2022 if shooting is removed from the Commonwealth Games program for Birmingham 2022.
As a matter of fact, out of India’s total tally of 503 medals, 135 have come from shooting, which is a record number of medals coming from any other sport heading into the CWG 2022. In addition to this, 31 medals were won by Indian shooters during the 2010 New Delhi Commonwealth Games, where India won a total of 101 medals, making it their most successful Commonwealth Games ever.

India was able to take advantage of the home crowd and the conditions at the 2010 Olympics in New Delhi, winning 101 medals as a result of the home crowd.
