In 1998, the first cases of Nipah Virus were identified in West Malaysia, when it outbreaks on Pig farm and 265 had gone infected and 108 had died. As the Virus’ name is referred to as Nipah, actually the name was taken from a place Sungai Nipah in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, where the first human case of Nipah Virus was identified.

Whoever was infected with the Nipah Virus from 1998 to 2018, out of them, 40 percent to 70 percent had died. During 1999, about 300 people were infected with it and more than 100 individuals died.

Nipah Virus Prevention

Prevention for the Nipah Virus is as follows, every individual must follow it to be protected from the deadly virus.

  • An individual must do a hand regularly with soap and water.
  • An individual must make a distance from the sick bat or a pig.
  • An individual must avoid going to those areas where there is a base of bats.
  • An individual must not eat or drink any food which can be deprived by a bat, such as raw date palm sap or raw fruit.
  • An individual must avoid being in touch with any NiV (Nipah Virus) infected individual’s blood or body fluids.

Nipah Virus Treatment

There is no licensed treatment is yet available for the NiV i.e. Nipah Virus infection, however, monoclonal antibody therapies are under development for the cure of deadly Virus.
